Okay it’s time for the next XP Tip and Trick. In the article on how to Change the Windows Explorer start directory I’ve told you that The World of Office Tips and Tricks is here for two reasons. Which are we want you to work faster with our Office Tips and Tricks and we want you to get the most out of your Microsoft Operating System. The third reason is that we want you to personalize your XP or Vista Operating system.

This next XP Tip and Trick isn’t really for “pimping” your XP operating system but for cleaning it up.

After I clicked on Settings, the “Use drop shadows blah blah” was already checked. But my desktop icon text still displays an ugly blue background. I have tried unchecking, then apply, then checking again and apply again…to no avail. Help T.T

Hi there. I’m using windows xp. I’ve searched all over the net actually, and could not find a solution. I’ve also tried to check and uncheck Lock Web Items on desktop under right-click menu on the desktop, as suggested by some netizens. Didn’t work =(

found out the source of my problem. All I had to do was to clear all data in desktop.ini under c:\documents and settings\[my account name]\Local settings and save. I believe this solution does not apply to everyone though.

“lock web items…” worked for me (after my 2 year old randomly changed it while I wasn’t there. Thank you, Google). Another site suggested that setting “smooth edges of screen fonts” might also be required, but I didn’t need to.

    That’s a great tip, thanks.

Your 2 year old LOL, I predict he’s going to have a great “digital” future. ;)
