What is DoFollow and What is NoFollow?

So you’ve seen the button “DoFollow plugin installed” and you’re now wondering; what is DoFollow?

DoFollow or NoFollow is something that is interesting for all bloggers and webmasters. Most blogs use the default setting NoFollow, which means that the comments posted with an URL in it on a NoFollow blog are not followed by Google and other search engines. Google initially used the setting NoFollow as an anti-spamming measure.

But why are DoFollow links important?

Every blogger or webmaster wants to increase their Google Page Rank. And Google PR is important for getting higher search engine rankings. The only way to achieve high search engine ranking results is to get other blogs or websites to link to your site. If these links are NoFollow then Google doesn’t count them as a link and are the links worthless for your search engine rankings.

So back to the question what is DoFollow?

Computer Tips, Tricks, Tweaks and Tutorials - What is DoFollow and What is NoFollow?DoFollow links are links which help you improve your search engine ranking results. But it is also important to know what ranking or value a DoFollow link has.

This blog is also a DoFollow blog and it has a PR5 which is pretty good. PR0 or PR1 is the lowest in this ranking system and PR10 is the highest. PR10 is practically unachievable; if I’m not mistaking there are only 10 or 12 websites with a PR10 and these are sites like Google and Adobe. Google gives the “more important or topic relevant” sites and blogs a higher page rank. Most blogs are PR1, PR2 and PR3.

It’s not only important to get as many links back to your site as possible but it is also important to get links back to your site from a high PR sites. A link back to your site from this PR5 blog will be more valuable to Google then a link back from a PR1 or PR2 site.

The DoFollow movement

At this moment a whole movement has evolved, who are removing the NoFollow settings. These bloggers are able to reward commenter’s with so called love links. Love links are an excellent way to reward visitors that are contributing to a useful discussion.
