This next Vista Tip and Trick is sort of a follow up on the article about the free Windows Vista partition Software that we wrote earlier. In this article I want to explain a little about the use of the Vista Disk Manager.
It is possible to resize a Vista partition without loosing any data and if you want to do this you’ll need to take the following steps.
First we need to open Vista Computer Management. You can do this via the article free Windows Vista partition Software or via the way I’m explaining it now which is the different way.
-
Go to start
-
Right click on Computer
-
And select Manage
If you haven’t disabled your User Account Control – UAC, you’ll see a pop-up asking you for permission.

Now go to Storage and select Disk Management.
You can now right click on the Vista partition that you want to resize and select your desired option.

This allows you to modify your partition without any loss of any data.
I hope you all liked this Vista Tip and Trick. Enjoy the weekend and ill talk to you all on Monday.

I’m having a slight problem with my partitions in vista. I have already joined one small partition to my main one, but there is a 10gig partition labled (recovery) that I am trying to merge back into my main volume but it’s not happening. I’ve even deleted the 10 gig, then try to extend the other partition but it wouldn’t, so i just had to reformat the 10 gig and start it as a new drive. Any tips? Thanks, knox
So you formatted the partition? Did you reboot and tried it again?
Did you get an error message or something or was the option merge just missing?
I used shrink to create a new volume on the drive and tried to format but get an error message that there is insufficient space on the drive to carry out the operation.
