Earlier this week I received a blog post with a really genius tweak from a blog where I’m subscribed too. If you are not subscribed to this blog you better hurry up and do so because this blog is great. It’s called How-To Geek and it’s kind of a similar blog as this one.
How-To is more a blog with advanced tweaks for the geeks among us and this blog is a blog with useful tweaks that everyone can use and is more for everyday use. How-To is several years old and is a real authority in the geek sector and we are just starting out since this blog is only 6 months old.
The brilliant tweak I want to show you is this. We are going to create a shortcut icon to clear to windows clipboard. This will help you to increase your work speed when you are working with large files. Working with an empty memory dramatically increases the speed of your system especially with slower machines. And this is also a great tool to clear your clipboard if you copied something that you don’t want to leave on there for someone to see.
Follow these steps to create a shortcut to clear the clipboard.
-
First you’ll need to right click on your desktop and select New and Shortcut.

-
The type in the following command cmd /c "echo off | clip"

-
Click next and give the shortcut a name.

-
And click on Finish
How-To gives the Icon a little bit more flair by giving it another Icon and assigning it a shortcut key.
You can do this by right clicking on the icon and selecting the icon properties.
Now select Change Icon

-
Type %SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll and press browse and you can select your new icon.

-
Then OK and Apply and you’re done.
I copied the icon to a folder that I use for all my tweaks and from there I dragged it to my taskbar. This way it isn’t cluttering up my desktop and I have it handy whenever I want to use it.

A big thank you to How-To Geek for this awesome tweak! And if you aren’t subscribed to them you better go have a look there. They also have a tweak for Windows XP, another reason to take a look there. This is the original post.
I hope you all like this Cool Vista Trick for speeding up things up a bit. I’ll talk to you all tomorrow, cheers!!
