If I may say so myself; so far we covered some great MS Vista Tips and Tricks. Some of the Vista Tips and Tricks I couldn’t live without are the Tutorial for disabling the Vista UAC - User Account Control, free partition software for Vista and the Tutorial for Loosing the Vista Login Screen. To this list I can add the next Vista Tip. Why Microsoft picked this default is a mystery to me.

Vista Power Button

Change the default settings of the Vista Power Button from SLEEP to OFF with the following steps.

The default action for the Power button on the start menu in Windows Vista is Sleep. We are changing these settings via the advanced power settings panel.

Go to Start
Click on Control Panel
Power Options
Select Change Plan Settings
And Change Advanced Power Settings

This is the long road, if you want to do this a little quicker than go to start and type cmd into the start menu search bar. Now open Command Prompt you type in powercfg.cpl,1.

Now you need to scroll down till you’ll reach Power buttons and lid.

Vista Power Button

Here you can disable the power button completely or you can change the settings of the Vista power button to Sleep, Hibernate or Shut Down.
