In part one of this miniseries I showed you how to create a shortcut for your e-mail and how you set a fixed receiver and e-mail subject.
Now that you know how to create this shortcut you might also want to have a pre-written e-mail body or a fixed CC e-mail address.
Please do note that this Windows XP and Windows Vista Tip and Trick is limited because of the Windows Command line that cannot be longer than 255 characters. Nevertheless, you’ll have plenty of space to write a nice standard e-mail even thought this space is limited.
Okay, let’s create an e-mail with a fixed body.
-
First right click on the Icon you created.
-
Select properties.
-
Then Type “mailto:friend@company.com?subject=todays_newsletter&body=Hi Lonneke, here is today’s newsletter.”
If you want to create a shortcut for your e-mails as above but now also with a standard CC receiver you’ll need to follow the next steps.
-
Also right click on the Icon you created.
-
Select properties.
-
Then Type “mailto:friend@company.com?subject=todays_newsletter&cc=ano
therfriend@company.com&body=Hi Lonneke, here is today’s newsletter.”
The underlined text in both commands is only there to show you what I’ve added in the command line of the Icon when you first created a shortcut for your e-mail.
The symbols in this Office Tip and Trick command line mean this…
& – Marks the end of a field.
; – Is used for multiple e-mail addresses
? – Is needed to separate the e-mail address from the “CC” and “subject” field.
This Microsoft Tip and Trick isn’t tested on all the Windows Operating Systems but will work for sure in Windows Vista and Windows XP.
