Most of us are only using the dollar symbols if we are working in an Excel Spreadsheet. This is mainly because Microsoft Excel doesn’t have an (standard) option to show cents. Since the dollar and cents symbols do look good in your spreadsheet I’ll show you in this next Excel Tip and Trick how to cheat a little. Where cheating a little since 0.54 cents isn’t really 0.54 cents but its 54 one hundredths of a cent (be careful with this).
If you want you’re Excel Spreadsheet to look good with dollar and Cents symbols you’ll need to follow the next steps.
-
Select the Cells you want to use this for.
-
Right Click
-
Select format Cells
-
And the number tab should now be showing automatically.
-
Select Custom in the Category field
-
And Type in [<1].00¢;$0.00_¢
You can copy this code directly from this webpage or you can enter it yourself. If you want to enter the symbols yourself you need to hold down the ALT key and press 155 (or 0162) and then release the ALT key.
-
Click OK
This is a tricky Excel formula, I couldn’t get this Excel Tip and Trick to work the first time I used it. I don’t know this for sure but I think it had something to do with my currency settings. If you can’t get it to work, try playing around with your settings. And if you still can’t get it to work just leave a reply or drop me an e-mail and ill help out. I hope you all enjoy this Excel Tutorial.
