Yesterday I showed you how to remove the shortcut arrow from your Windows XP desktop icons. The desktop icons arrows are even bigger in Windows Vista than the ones in Windows XP. This next Vista Tip and Trick is about removing the arrows from your desktop icons or changing them into other icon arrows.
This next Vista Tip or Trick doesn’t involve making manual changes to the registry, We are downloading a free and small program for this which is called Vista Shortcut Manager.
- Okay, you should have grabbed the Vista Shortcut Manager by now.
- Double click the downloaded file and follow the installation steps to install the software.
- Now double click the desktop icon.
Now if you didn’t disable the User Account Control - UAC you’ll need to click on allow.
You can select in the program window the option for deleting the shortcut arrows, to change the shortcut arrows into an arrow, create a custom shortcut arrow or no arrow at all. I’ve selected no arrow at all and I also check marked the option to remove the “- Shortcut” extension when new shortcuts are created.

Now you need to reboot and your shortcut arrows are deleted or changed.
Supposedly this should work in Windows XP too but I didn’t test this. If you happen to test this, please let us know if it works or not.
I hope you all enjoyed this Vista Tip and Trick. Ill talk to you all tomorrow.
