The Evolution of Storage Devices.

I get quite number of requests per day/week from people that want a blog or product review. The most common reason for a product review is to promote a product. Then they client hopes that I write a positive article and that they might sell a "few" copies after my review. The (main) reason for this paid review is that the site owners want more publicity for a page that they’ve made.
The page in question is called The History of Backup and is written by Maxim Yurin. Me personally; I’m very intrigued by backup technology for several reasons. The main reason is that I have real “dramatic” experience with backups, well the lack of backups. And the second is that I’m very interested in the options for backup and recovery software since I have Production Company with lots of virtual real estate that needs to be backed up daily.
The History of Backup is very well written and is real informative. Maxim starts with a small introduction about the need of making backups and what the term “backup” really means.
This is followed by a piece where he talks about the devices, methods and time span they were used in. The article starts with the first data storage device which was the 1951 punch card which was followed by the magnetic tape and later on the hard disk. It’s really fun reading this site; I’ve learned many new and interesting facts about the inventions CD-R, Flash drives and Blu-ray.
What I found really interesting was the part where he writes about the history of network and online backup solutions and what today’s possibilities are.
My conclusion of this review is that this page is really informative, easy to read and that you can really learn something there about The History of Backups. The page is jazzed up with some nice graphs, informative pdf downloads and practical links.
My advice; if you are interested in learning more about the Internet, backups and the evolution of storage devices pay them a visit, its well worth it. I’ve bookmarked The History of Backups for future references.

On the subject of file backup, sharing and storage …
Online backup is becoming common these days. It is estimated that 70-75% of all PC’s will be connected to online backup services with in the next decade.
Thousands of online backup companies exist, from one guy operating in his apartment to fortune 500 companies.
Choosing the best online backup company will be very confusing and difficult. One website I find very helpful in making a decision to pick an online backup company is:

This site lists more than 400 online backup companies in its directory and ranks the top 25 on a monthly basis.
